MICHIGAN STATE MEET

Hunter Jones Second-Fastest Ever at Michigan Speedway, Wins Fourth Straight D3 Title

By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor

Hunter Jones made history at the Michigan state cross country championships on two fronts.

The senior standout from Benzie Central, one of the top runners in the country, became the first Lower Peninsula runner to win four boys state cross country titles since Ryan Shay in the 1990s. He also covered the 5,000-meter course at Michigan International Speedway in 14:46.5, the fastest by any runner since the incomparable Dathan Ritzenhein in 2000.

Jones' time was three seconds faster than Riley Hough ran it last year an Hough went on to win the Eastbay Cross Country national title in San Diego.
